The current security situation in Europe has led the energy sector to increase its preparedness. The Danish Energy Agency has sent a proposal for a law on strengthened preparedness in the energy sector for political approval.
The purpose of the bill is to strengthen the preparedness of the energy sector to prevent and withstand incidents that threaten energy supplies. Today, there is a significant and high level of threat to the energy sector, including cyber attacks and espionage.
The bill covers companies in the electricity, gas, oil, district heating, district cooling and hydrogen sectors. This means that actors who are not currently subject to contingency regulation will now be covered.
The proposal sets out a number of additional requirements for the preparedness of undertakings, including requirements for physical, technical and organisational measures. A significant portion of the sector will be categorized as critical infrastructure and therefore subject to background check requirements.
The scope of these checks will range from simple ID and resume checks to expanded background checks and actual security clearances from PET.
